Whereas two nights ago we experienced the highlight of our adventure thus far, lastnight was on the opposite end of the spectrum. No one is hurt, nothing was stolen, but it certainly pushed Hugh and I to our limits.

The night before was our last night in Venice. After dinner in (pesto tortellini, zucchini, garlic bread and wine), we headed out to Piazza San Marco. I have very fond memories of the duelling orchestras from my last visit with Auntie Gail, so I wanted to share that with the family. The experience did not disappoint. It was perfect weather, the music was magical, all shared over the most expensive cappuccino and dessert found in Venice!

Wheras Fia discovered her inner Pavorotti a few nights ago, this night in Venice she was Ginger Rogers. It was tribal-like dancing and thankfully I was able to capture some of it on video! (tried posting, but the Internet connection here is slow at best). She danced, and danced, and danced!

It was a very late night for the kids, follwed by an early morning wake up so as not to miss our train to Lucca (and a whole other story there). Add 4-1/2 hour in a small space, and you know the outcome. Once we finally arrived to the apartment, met the owner and got the tour it was nearly 7:00pm and we were starving. The kids, on the other hand, were done. Capital D. Two kids, two meltdowns – and for those of you who have witnessed our daughter’s strong-willed personality, you know our pain. Thankfully our apartment sits atop a fabulous restaurant, so Hugh went out and picked up take out while I put Fia down for the night. It’s nearly 9:30am and she’s been sleeping 13 hours. The kid was tired.

A bit more about this apartment. Both the building and the apartment of full of old-world charm. The glass doors, colorful tile, twelve+ foot ceilings and the fact that we are 1/2 block from the main drag, across from a beer garden, deli and shoe store – all add up to make this a perfect home for our family for the next 9 days!

I will try to post more photos later … It takes quite awile … But I took this photo from our bedroom window this morning. Yum!!
